GSTAKIS began his professional art career at 19, when he moved to the island of Rhodes, Greece, and immersed himself in the monastic life of St. Nicholas Monastery. Under the guidance of monks he studied the ancient techniques of Byzantine iconography — a tradition preserved and passed down for over 2,000 years.
Following two years of rigorous training, disciplined living and devotion to his craft, GSTAKIS was ordained an iconographer, following in the footsteps of his childhood heroes Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci.
Beyond mastering technique, the monastery instilled in him a deep respect for craftsmanship, discipline and artistic integrity. Above all, it revealed to him the power of art as a form of storytelling — the ability to transform an idea, emotion, or human experience into a visual narrative layered with symbolism and meaning.
Over the past two decades, GSTAKIS has carried those principles into a contemporary body of work that bridges classical craftsmanship with bold modern expression. His work is recognized for its energy, emotion and distinctive visual language, creating pieces designed not simply to be viewed, but experienced.
Today GSTAKIS continues to travel nationally and internationally, exhibiting his work and performing live painting experiences for private collectors, corporate events, charities, and cultural gatherings. His work and performances have been featured throughout Miami Art Week and Art Basel for 15 consecutive years, while his live painting has helped support charitable organizations and community initiatives through the power of art.
